Biking KC-I love my city

This is Peggy Noland's shop, next to Spool, and then Birdies.  One of the best streets for handmade.

These are some pictures I took last year on a long training ride in downtown Kansas City.   I love our downtown.  Kansas City just started a bike share program and I am pretty excited about it.  I remembering seeing one in Pennsylvannia years ago and thinking how cool that would be.  I haven't been very good about this little series...or any of my little series for that matter, but stick with me, I promise to work on my consistency...or lack there of...or let's be real...maybe not.  Sometimes life gets in the way. Like taking the kids bowling tonight and seeing how many germs we can mix with pizza.  Seriously fun.

Friday Faves: Gypsy Love

you know you're a gypsy
i'll tumble for you
stairway to heaven
after midnight...
no volveré
This is how I feel right now.  I want to be a gypsy, or maybe just dress like one. All of these fabulous finds can be found at Girl on a Vine on Etsy.

Work has been crazy all week.  I need to medicate.  Or sleep for the next 14 hours.  I would take either right about now.  But it's Friday.  So I have that going for me.  Hoping to do a major closet cleanout this weekend.  Ready to get rid of some things and get down to the basics.  Don't know if that's possible or not...but going to give it a go.  Elsie at A Beautiful Mess posted about how she downsized her closet by 50%.  I am inspired and ready.  My style has changed over the years and looking back and seeing the staples that I wear often I feel like I have a good sense of what can go and what can stay.  Will let you know the progress!

Happy Friday!

Stoked for Sunnies

I have been wanting prespcription sunglasses for. like. ever.  I've never bit the bullet because they are just as expensive as regular glasses and as we all know they will eventually get lost, broken, stolen, left somewhere or use as kindling.  But not anymore.  I had never heard of Firmoo until they contacted me about there free glasses program.  After reading through their website I was pretty impressed.  They actually offer free eyewear (yes free)  to help the less fortunate and folks with low income correct their vision.  I love this.  And their regular prescription glasses are priced so low people who like to have mulitple pairs now can.  I only update my glasses every few years for cost reasons alone.  I didn't realize how different my old prescription was until I put on my new Firmoo's.

Without further ado.  Here's is my goofy self portraits with my new shades.  They are a bit gangsta.  If I had time I would have added one of those gold chains.  I still might.  Because it would be bad.

This is the next pair I need.  So I can fulfill my inner hippy now that my inner gangsta is satisfied.
Go check them out.  Firmoo.  Their customer service was great and I got them super quick.

Seeing clearly now,
Amy

I "dye" DIY

I've been wanting to dye some vintage slips forever.  My kids did a tie-dye project at daycare and wanted to do some of their own at home.  I figured while the dye was out...it was as good a time as any to do my own.  I have some vintage slips that are stained so I wanted to see if the dye would cover it up.  As far as covering up the stains...not so much.  But they are harder to spot now.  This started out light blue.  If I was thinking I would have taken a before shot.

It has a marbled effect that's hard to see in the photos but looks pretty cool.  Since I had a huge pot of dye I thought I would give it another go with a stained tablecloth.  Note: the stain still shows through but it does look much better with it's new color.

The only things you need for this project is some dye, a big spoon, water and a big pot.  I soaked the darkest part the longest, probably about 20 minutes longer than the rest and gradually added more.  Simply find the middle of the tablecloth and gather it, dip the ends in the pot and drape the rest over the side being careful not to touch the burners.  This project was super fun.  I stocked up on a bunch of other colors so when I get some time and I am going to get crazy.

Ready for the weekend.  It's hot and I cannot believe my son started soccer practice again tonight.  It was 100+.  Way too hot for me.  Excited for tomorrow.  Meeting my dear friend Kari for lunch to catch up.  We played basketball together in college and I love that after all these years we still keep in touch through our monthy lunches and weekly emails.  When you get older it's the little things in life that keep us girls going and get us through the work weeks.  Thanks for that Kari...you are a peach!

Happy Wednesday ya'll!  My kids are back to destroying my somewhat clean house.  Why is it so fun for them to torment me? Me: "It's time for bed".  Sammy: "but i matin da mess maw maw".

Goodnight,
Amy
