15 Minute TShirt scarf

There is a new website encouraging DIY projects and crafting with a community!  First project: easy TShirt scarf.  These have been all over the internet, but if you need the tutorial just click here!  This is great for all my tshirts that are stained, stretched, too short...

I wore it to a wedding shower this weekend.  Going to post more pics of the shower because my friend Jaime has an absolutely beautiful house.  Too pretty not to post.  So pretty we had the shower at HER house...and yes she is the bride too.  That's what she gets for having the pretty house.

You know I love me a project that is quick!  Check out the where I party tab.

Lack of better judgement

So, about 12-13 years ago I was fresh out of college and had my first "grown up" job, had just bought my first house, and I made the super smart decision to buy a 65 Cadillac.  I knew nothing about old cars, except for the fact that I thought they were way cool and I must have one.  The grown up job I had was selling them, therefore I knew what I was doing.  I still remember being so proud as I turned in my demo (my free brand new car from the dealer) and pulled up in my hooptie (smart huh?).  All of my homies loved it.  Everyone else had no problem telling me what a stupid move I had made.  It was a great deal.  Since I could pocket the demo allowance I figured it was a smart investment.

Not really, because old cars need to be owned by people who can work on them.  Fortunately, I never did sink a bunch of money into it.  Unfortunately, it got horrible gas mileage and was never dependable.  I used it to go to craft fairs and sell my homeade candles.  After all, I could put an 8 foot table in the trunk, and perhaps a couch.  You could also fit several friends inside to go out partying...as long as you had jumper cables.

It has been more than neglected as I have grown up, gotten married, had kids, and have been forced into responsible living and driving repsonsible cars with seatbelts that work.  Every year or two my hubby hooks up a charger, or changes the battery and it still fires right up.  We take it for a spin, then park it to collect dust and mold for another year or two.

I have been working on several house projects (that's why I have been neglecting my blog) because I am ready to move out of this "supposed to have been a starter house" and find a real grown up house with more than two bedrooms and a bathroom I can turn around in.  One of the projects was to clean out the shed.  So my nice hubby threw a new battery in it, and sure enough, she started right up!  I was so excited!

See?  Mucho excited.  It always makes me so happy.  It makes me think that I NEVER want to sell it.

I didn't want  anyone to steal it (we live in the hood and a 65 Caddy is a hot commodity) so after the hubs filled it gas we parked it back in the driveway.  The next day my stepdad came over to help me schlep stuff out of my shed and fill his truck with garbage.  I went to start it (proudly) and the old son of a biyotch started throwin' flames out from under the hood.  The bastard was on fire!  No one got hurt, the hose was nearby.  Kids did get a little scared.  "Da Caddiwac ids on Fiwr"

My stepfather still thinks it's quite funny that I would actually think someone would steal the piece of shiz....and in my defense...they totally would.
It's hard to tell, but behind the beast is our shed and you can see some of the junk I'd already pulled out. We had to move everything around it (and everything was two truckloads of crap).  The little fire made the brakes lock up and we couldn't even push it out of the way.  Now for the creme de la creme...hubby gets home from work, we tell him the story, he goes outside...and what do you know...STARTS RIGHT UP!  Oh, and it's parked in the street in case anyone wants it.
The story ends with my son knowing how to spot a Cadillac out and about.  And, they are all "shiny" he says, unlike ours.  The end.

This weeks thrifty finds

Please don't hate.  Shelley (my sweet cousin)-I can feel you giving me the stink eye...first great buy...a L.A.M.B bag with a gold chain strap...yes, as in Gwen Stefani's line.  How much?  $22.  It was $29, but I had a coupon...that's right-I used a coupon at the DAV.
Next:  some chuck T's for my baby girl, once she gets a little bigger.  They are size 12 and she's in a 10.
Also: a vintage bag with tennis rackets
More:  mystery fabric bag (I love these, you never know what's inside)

what's on the table is only half of what was in the bag.  Lot's of floral.  Loving floral right now.
A pink 70's dress, with a zipper that goes all the way up the back, great pockets, and shoulder pads, and the best part...it fits!  These next two pictures don't do these items justice.
Last:  an old lady coat with fur collar and great buttons.
Love a great bundle.

Taking in a dress (the easy way)

When I was pregnant, I gained a little weight.  Ok, so I gained a LOT.
I bought this dress when I was coming down...I got it at Anthropolgie and don't think I have ever worn it.  It's never really fit right.  It used to be tight in the waist and pucker in all the wrong places.  It has always been bigger up top, however I did used to fill it out more.  I hate getting rid of clothes that I like, but haven't worn.  So today I decided to take it in since spring is here, and now I have real expenses to worry about, instead of buying new clothes.
Here is the easy way to take in a dress.

1.)  Put it on inside out.
2.)  Pin the sides...without pinning yourself.
3.)  Take it off and look at your pin placement.
4.)  Straighten out your pins (unless you want to be more detailed)
5.)  I started sewing from the bottom, because I knew it wouldn't line up perfectly and figured the top was more blousy and I could get away with not being so detailed.
6.)  A few inches below my first pin (a couple inches below the waist) start your new seam-where the old one started.  Start on the outside and sew at an angle toward the first pin.
see the angle?
Here is a picture the opposite angle. Does that make sense?

this is what happens when my bobbin starts to run out of thread.  Dangit! I hate ripping out seams.
7.)  When finished it should look something like this.  You can cut off the excess, or leave it on (if you can't tell) then if you get back on the waffle fry/ donut train again, you can rip out the seam and still wear it!

There you have it!  Put it back on the right way and it should fit much better.

SuperBad

Saw a snippet on Ellen, then googled it.  She really is a badass.  Look At Me Now - Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes (Cover by @KarminMusic).  I wonder how much time I am going to waste when I should be sleeping, watching more of her videos.

First off let me just say how much I love my Amy for having me over to guest post today!!!

MUAH!!!!

Amy is THE COOLEST CAT AROUND.  No joke.

She's sassy, crafty, and drop dead gorgeous.  And, she's my cousin :D

So, here's what we're going to make today

And, here are your supplies

{thrifted tie, suit button (or anything you'd like to use), scissors, pins, needle and thread}

STEP ONE: Lay out your tie, and start folding and pining in a manner that's pleasing to you.

STEP TWO: Lay it around your neck and add or remove folds to get the length you want.  Keep in mind you'll want to be able to have the necklace slip on and off your head after the button is sewn down.

STEP THREE: Take your needle and thread and tack down the folds from the back side of the necklace.

STEP FOUR: Place your button or accent piece and stitch down.

STEP FIVE: Enjoy your great necklace!!!

Have another donut...and while you're at it, wash it down with some chocolate milk.

As much as I love you fried bread covered in frosting and sugar...I think I need to break up with you.  You always seem to come around and remind me how much i love you, but really, you need to pack your crap and move out, cuz momma wants a new suit.

I am loving these high waisted swimsuits.  Of course from Anthropologie-here.  I found these one late night while laying in bed eating cake.  I'm thinking I should layoff the cake...and donuts.

DIY bracelet redo

I have had these bracelets forever.  Haven't liked them in forever either.  I just used spray adhesive (which I love) and some scrap fabric.

I am addicted, and want to cover every one I own in fabric!  I may never get to wear them, my daughter has taken a liking to them and every time I try to find them they are MIA.  Oh wells.
Click on my "i like to party" link to see where I get down.
